Can’t get you out of my head

If you haven’t heard the word before, an “earworm” is a tune or words from a song that you can’t get out of your head.

A couple of years ago, I was with Danielle at a wedding at a nice hotel (The Aviator in Farnborough). The person I was sitting next to at the meal was starting to get on my tits - he was a keen runner - so I slipped off to the toilets.

When I entered, I noticed that somebody was occupying one of the cubicles.

I was in no hurry to get back to “marathon man” so I had a wonderful pee and then tried out all the different hand-soaps and moisturisers. I also ran my wrists under the cold tap for 90 seconds. It’s as if I can feel the cooled blood circulating. It’s lovely.

I then took a long time drying my hands on the proper towels. All the time that I had been enjoying myself, I’d been singing the song that had been in my head all day. We’d heard it in the car on our way to the church. The acoustics in the toilets were rather good and this just encouraged me.

When I went to leave, the chap in the cubicle was still there. Then I realised why. He was hiding.

The song I’d been singing?

Go West.

Poor man. He’s probably still in there now.
